Cockroaches can invade your residence or business when you least expect it. Cockroaches are known as “hitchhikers” because they are great at traveling through items such as; suitcases, shopping bags, pocketbooks, bags and boxes, or even your child’s backpack from school. For instance, if you get a delivery from the supermarket please keep in mind there might be a hitchhiker along for the ride.
Cockroaches typically come out in the night because they are nocturnal. Nighttime is where these critters feel most safe to go scurrying through your home or business in search for food and water. Seeing more than one cockroach frequently can be a sign of an infestation, especially if you see them during the daytime. Other signs of an infestation include; fecal dropping, egg casing (ootheca), unpleasant smells, and dead cockroaches.
Cockroaches cause more havoc then you may realize. An infestation will expose you and your loved ones to bacterial diseases that can lead to heath issues. There are over 33 different kinds of bacteria such as, E. Coli, Salmonella, six kinds of parasitic worms, and at least seven kinds of human pathogens. Cockroaches crawl around picking up the germs by the spines on their legs and body and then transferring it. Cockroaches scurry around in virtually any dirty place such as decaying matter and sewage. They pick up the germs and drop them off on anything that you are in contact with. On your food, fruit, canned goods, pet food, pet toys, baby toys, essentially anything that lands in your hands or mouth. Ingesting foods with harmful bacteria can lead to food poisoning. But there’s more! The saliva, urine and fecal droppings from cockroaches contain allergen proteins that may provoke allergic reactions and even induce asthma attacks and breathing issues.
